Procurement Officers hold one of the most vital positions in a company. Things such as inventory, suppliers and even product labeling  depend on this position to function smoothly. If you’re in this line of work, here are a few relationships we suggest being intentional about cultivating throughout your work week.

Suppliers

The obvious, and arguably the most important, relationship a procurement officer will have is a solid relationship with suppliers. It is imperative that your chosen suppliers are content. A strong, healthy supplier relationship will also be helpful when it comes to negotiating contracts, troubleshooting inventory issues, and ensuring they deliver on their guarantees.

Designers & Printers

We may be a little biased, but we’re partial to this particular relationship! If you’re involved in the merchandising aspect that includes design, packaging, product labeling, or label printing, this is another imperative connection that needs to be firm. Healthy, frequent communication with designers and printers will ensure your packaging vision comes to life smoothly and timely. High quality label printing will ensure your brand is a step above the rest on store shelves.

Logistics Companies

Having the perfect product will mean very little if you can’t get it where it needs to go in the end. Because of this, it’s crucial to think about improving your logistics and operations relationships. Cultivating good relations with logistics companies can help ensure an unhindered flow of your goods from suppliers to the consumer.

Internal Management

This may not be as obvious, but we think it’s worth noting the necessity to be in tune with several facets of your company’s sects. In order to fully understand how to meet company needs, it’s wise to first have a solid understanding of overarching company goals and objectives from upper management. Likewise, before putting a product in front of consumers, it’s critical to communicate with the marketing team to obtain a clear picture of what buyers’ needs and desires are.

Being a Procurement Officer, Manager or Vendor today can be a challenging position to hold. Making a point to nurture the right professional relationships can help make some of your hard days easier. Have any other relationships in this field you think we should highlight? Let us know!
