Eco-friendly labels send the message to your customers that your brand is moving towards a more sustainable future. If you are looking for a more environmentally friendly label, Leapin’ Lizard Labels has got you covered. We’ve compiled a list of the more eco-friendly label materials we offer to our clients!

What Is A Sustainable Label?

A sustainable label is any label created using materials that are recycled, recyclable, or renewable. This can include either the entire label or just the elements of the label, such as the ink, or the adhesive. It’s important to note that just because a product or its packaging is sustainable, that does not always mean that the labeling is as well.

Why Choose a Sustainable Label Material?

Choosing to use sustainable labels can make a huge difference for mother nature and for your company’s growth. How? A survey found that the majority of Gen-Z consumers would pay an additional 10% or more for environmentally friendly products, while 34% of that majority look for those products to be packaged sustainably. Utilizing sustainability in your packaging and labels will be key to retaining the new generation of consumers in your customer base.

If you are looking for a more environmentally friendly label, check out our options below. If you see FSC, The FSC certification is considered the “gold standard” designation for wood harvested from forests that are responsibly managed, socially beneficial, environmentally conscious, and economically viable. Please note that the paper materials below will not hold up well to water, oils, or humidity.

Matte Paper

This material has an ink jet topcoat for more vibrant colors, a smooth finish and is perfect for those labels with tiny text. It’s best for single use products. This material is great for coffee labels, tea labels and soap labels. It can be recycled if not laminated.

Estate #9: FSC Certified

Estate #9 provides a timeless, elegant look to your product. With it’s slight texture, off-white color and raw finish, it is perfect for alcohol bottles. This material can not be laminated.

Estate #4: FSC Certified

With its bright white color and subtle texture, Estate Paper 4 will elevate the appearance and desirability of any product. This material is not waterproof, and is not designed to withstand repeated handling, however it is designed to have “wet strength”. Originally created for fine wine bottles, Estate labels are now a popular choice for wrapped soap, candles, and a wide range of other handcrafted or artisan products. This material can not be laminated.

Kraft Paper: FSC Certified

Kraft paper gives a raw, unfinished look that will bring out the character in your label. Be aware that lighter colors may be washed out by the brown color of the material. Kraft paper can not be laminated and is not moisture resistant.

Stone Paper consisting of 80% calcium carbonate, which is a base mineral and inorganic compound and 20% polyethylene resin to create an environmentally friendly paper. Stone Paper is water- resistant and inherently strong and durable.

If you are looking for an eco-friendly label option, vellum is made with 100% post-consumer fiber. It is excellent for high speed packaging lines and is a great stock for premium and eco-friendly labeling such as wine bottles, gourmet food, and beverages.

Hemp Paper

Hemp paper is created using hemp pulp which is combined with post consumer pulp. The result is a premium quality paper with an elegant finish. The adhesive is strong and durable. This material can not be laminated.

Water Soluble

Dispersa® WaterDispersible labels are perfect for all of your reusable container needs including: meal preparation, food safety rotation, storage and many more! These labels completely disperse in water within seconds. Optimal dispersion occurs in warm water with light agitation. Store in a dry place.
